Continuing the theme of looking at the breakdown of Castrol Performance Index Contributions based on nationalities, I wanted to see how Spain and England compare to each other, particularly when it comes to domestic players.
In England, Birmingham has the highest percentage of CPI contributions by domestic players with 58.03% while Arsenal has the lowest with 11.80%. In Spain, Athletic Bilbao has 100% domestic CPI contributions due to their policy of only signing Basque players, while the team with the lowest percentage of contributions is Almeria with 31% (Real Madrid is a close second with only 32.4%).
Despite Real Madrid’s reputation for signing players from all over the world, they still have a higher contribution percentage than 11 English clubs. Barcelona? With all of the hype around La Masia, they are slightly below the median for a Spanish club, but still have a higher percentange than all English clubs but Birmingham. So how do the top 4 clubs from each country compare?
| Manchester United | 27.34 | Barcelona | 56 |
| Arsenal | 11.8 | Real Madrid | 32.4 |
| Chelsea | 19.98 | Valencia | 60.7 |
| Manchester City | 31.92 | Villarreal | 66.1 |
Teams in italics are still competing in European competitions.
