Previously I posted the number of games played based on nationality for the top 4 clubs in the EPL. Since the Castrol Performance Index was updated today, I thought it would be interesting to see how the players from each country contribute to a team’s performance.
What’s interesting is that while Manchester City led the way in games played by Englishmen, Manchester United leads the way in terms of Castrol Performance impact. This could be explained by the fact that the Castrol Performance Index excludes Europa League matches while heavily weighting Champions League Quarterfinals, so English players for Manchester City are at a slight disadvantage compared to those on the other 3 teams. If you look at the percentage contribution of points, however, Manchester City still leads the top four for contributions made by English players.
Looking at the full graph, you can get a sense for the breadth of countries represented in the EPL. Yellow nodes are countries with players playing for the top 4. The Tableau workbook below allows you to dig into the data a little deeper. Hover over the charts for more detail.

Hi Sarah,
What are you using for the network diagrams?
It is a program called Gephi (www.gephi.org). It’s still in beta so it’s very rough around the edges, but works well once you get used to some of the quirks.
These really are some fantastic graphs. Delighted to have discovered this site. I’m making graphs about fantasy football liga mainly. I will definitely check out gephi. love the open source. all the best!
